Conversion of Single Unit into a Multi-Family Unit.

The owners of this victorian asked me to create a design which would allow a full unit to be inserted under their existing unit. In short, the home was jacked up and a new unit of my design was slipped in underneath it.

New ground level

Because of the program requirements, interaction with the surrounding landscape and the fact that the bottom unit had its entry on the side - unlike the top unit’s entry which was in front - the bottom unit’s floor plan did not mirror the existing upper unit plan. It had it’s own rational and design.

Jacking

House jacking in progress to lift the house to accommodate the full height unit.

Integration

Seen from the street the new addition worked with the existing structure to add a 2 BR unit - a near doubling of square footage - with minimal impact on the look of the house or the texture of the neighborhood.
